Shipping Info

All shipments are sent prepaid before any fish are pulled, packed, or shipped. Availability is subject to change before your order is completed

Given the high quality of fish shipped and extreme care is taken to pack safely for transit for 20-24hours, losses are very seldom experienced in shipping. In the rare occasion that you receive fish dead on arrival (DOA) please see our Live Arrival Guarantee

All orders are shipped via UPS Next Day Delivery.

During warmer weather months UPS Ground within the next day by ‘end of day’ delivery service area is available (most of NJ, NY, CT, and PA) at a much more affordable rate. This mode of shipping, however, is highly not recommended during the colder winter months.

Tangled Up in Cichlids guarantees live arrival on UPS Next Day Air ‘10:30 AM’ (‘12:00 pm’ in some extended service regions) Delivery shipments provided the package is not subject mishandling by the carrier.

I start packing fish between 2 and 3 pm Eastern time. When a shipping label is created in our UPS system you (and I) instantly receive an email notification with your packages tracking number. I always ask that you review that email right away to confirm the info. In the event that I have a typo, we can correct it right away. I drop the packages off myself to my UPS hub located in Parsippany, NJ at 7 pm EST and cannot make changes after UPS has scanned them. You will receive additional emails from UPS throughout your packages transit time as it gets scanned at each hub or destination. I also ask that the morning of expected delivery that clients log in and check the status of the package. This way they can plan for any early deliveries or delays. It is your responsibility to check the tracking number for delivery times and to be available to accept physical delivery of your live animal(s).

Saturday Delivery (where available)

For those of you who are only available to accept a package on the weekend, there is no reason to hesitate to order due to extra weekend delivery costs.

Shipping on Friday for Saturday delivery, the ‘Saturday delivery fee’ (average cost of $18.00) which UPS charges will not be applied to your order on orders over $100.00 of fish (packing materials and Next Day Air shipping rates not included). The regular UPS Next Day Air cost of delivery is still applicable (UPS ground service does not operate on Saturday).

In the event that UPS is unable to make delivery of your package on a Saturday that package will be held by UPS until Monday to be shipped again. Please be sure to be available to accept physical delivery of your live animal(s).

Airport to Airport (cargo):

For airport shipped domestic (US) orders: An airport delivery charge is added to all orders. You must pick up your order directly from the air cargo facility at the specified airport within 2 hours of delivery.

Southwestern Airlines are shipped out of LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in Queens, NY

United Airlines are shipped out of Liberty International Airport (EWR) in Newark, NJ

Fees are:

Southwest Airlines out of LGA: $75.00
United Airlines out of EWR: $25.00

This method of shipping is at the discretion of Tangled Up in Cichlids. It will be mostly reserved for large wholesale orders. Delivering to either airport includes a minimum of an hour of travel each way (significantly more to LGA), fuel, tolls, and parking. More importantly, it cuts into the time I can be packing many other orders for other clients. It is also not cost-effective to you the client. On single box orders of any size (small, medium, or large) it is cheaper to ship via UPS right to your door the next morning.

Outside of the United States

Depending on the final destination, some international shipments require the services of an export broker. This fee is $100.00 per shipment. An airport delivery charge is added to all orders. (see above paragraph)

European countries requiring Animal Health Certification from the USDA are subject to a $50.00 fee required to obtain this documentation.
